Celebrate Eucharist
Thank you so much for bringing your children to class each week. I know what a struggle this can be. However, many teachers tell me their students are not attending mass on a regular basis. If your life is so busy that you can only get your child to faith formation class and not mass, then I would ask that you take them to mass only. The faith we are teaching them about in class will only mean something if it is nurtured by the Eucharist. Sunday mass is the source and summit of everything we do as Catholics. There is absolutely no better place to be on Sunday than in church-it’s where we figure out who we are and what we are to be-Jesus for the world.

Welcome to Information Night for the
First Eucharist Process at Queen of All Saints.
We are so excited that you have chosen to bring your child to the table. We introduced this program to the parish several years ago and we’ve had many parents tell us how helpful they found the classes and how much they appreciated them. We are very excited to now introduce this program to you:
1. You should receive a pink colored calendar. Both parent and child must attend these monthly meetings. (This is in addition to attendance of religion classes in the school or the faith formation program.) The children and adults will meet separately for the first hour and then we will come together to share what we have learned and celebrate a closing prayer together. The session will last no later than 8:30 - earlier if possible.
2. The topic of each session is listed on the calendar. The sessions will be based on Cardinal Mahoney’s Pastoral letter entitled “Gathered Faithfully Together” and will be centered on understanding the parts of the mass. The adult sessions will be led by Mrs. Nancy Tomsic.
3. We are very excited to offer this program and our reasons are many:
a. The instructions coming from the church (such as the General Directory for Catechesis and 1999 US Bishops: Our Hearts were Burning Within Us) all indicate that adults are at the center of the Church’s religious education and it is the parents’ duty to be intimately involved in preparing their child for Eucharist.
b. As parents bring forth their children for sacraments in this parish, we find that many of you have had no religious instruction since childhood. Your knowledge may need a little updating and refreshing. You need to know our faith if are to effectively pass it on to your children. Learning is not just for kids.
c. Over and over, we see families very excited to celebrate their child’s First Communion and then afterwards their interest and attendance decreases. We want better for you. We want to help you understand not only the commitment but the benefits involved in really being a catholic.
d. Even for those families who understand and practice their faith, these classes help reinforce and improve the celebration of this awesome sacrament. Praying and studying together will help strengthen your family.
4. Vatican II invites all Catholics to “Full, Active, Conscious Participation” in the Eucharist. Through helping both the parent and the child, we hope to make your Sunday worship more committed and more meaningful.
5. In order for your child to celebrate First Communion here at Queen of All Saints, you must commit to attending these monthly meetings. We realize things come up and you may have to miss a session or two.
You must call 685-8707 if you will be missing a session so we can be sure to send you the materials. If you are unable to make most of the sessions please call and we can discuss it. We do not wish to create a burden, but to enhance your Sunday.
6. If you have older siblings in the family they are welcome to join your child. If you have younger children who need free childcare for the evening, please call 685-8707 and request it or sign up at Info Night.
7. We are also asking each family to sign up at least one time this year to serve at mass either as greeters, bringing up the gifts, singing in the choir, and setting the table. Sign ups will be taken at all meetings. Sign up as much as you’d like.
8. First Communion is scheduled to take place at all the masses on the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd. You may sign up for your mass time preference at our November 3rd meeting.
9. If you are a member of Queen of All Saints Parish and are not currently registered (if you receive mail from us such as the newsletter, envelopes, and Christmas and Easter letters then you are registered) we ask you to please do so. If you are members at another parish, we ask that you obtain a simple letter from that parish allowing your child to celebrate First Communion here at QAS (this mostly applies to school children).
10. If your child has not been baptized, be sure to let Mrs. Tomsic know immediately. There will be a meeting on October 27th that you must attend.
11. You should also receive a green sheet with little Liturgy IQ test just for fun.
12. We look forward to having you in the program. Be sure to check your name on the sign in sheet tonight or call 685-8707 to register.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call Mrs. Tomsic at 685-8707. God Bless you and your child.
We’ll see you and your child in the Hall
October 6th at 7pm.
